Now we have another Obama as Secretary of State. John Kerry is a coward and a liar. Those of us who are old enough to have been around during the Viet Nam war can remember his disgraceful conduct at that time. His comrads in arms told the truth when he was running for president. They blew the whistle on him, and it's a shame it didn't stay blown.
I believe he hates the United States as much as Obama, and he certainly hates the military. Just what we need, another Obama as SOS.

I am going to take Jerry's stand on what happens: I can't make a difference and there is no logical reason for me to get an ulcer over what is happening. No matter how upset I get and how much I scream and shout, I am outnumbered. Just remember that it's only 4 more years before it could get much worse.

Steve, I wish it weren't that way, but experience has taught me that it is. Looking back at my old high school Civics I class, I wonder if that too was not part of the problem. School books, like any others, can be written for most any purpose. Nothing like a snow job to keep things quiet while other things routinely go on.
I'm glad to be as old as I am, because the next generation will have problems way over my head. Time to take naps, smell the flowers, and enjoy what remains of my Social Security.

I'm sure my blood pressure would be a lot lower if I could adopt your attitudes. But, for good or bad I was taught....no taught isn't a strong enough word for it; I had it pounded into my head, when I was in school, that I had responsibilities whether I wanted them or not. And one of the most important responsibility we Americans had was out duty to our country. I wish I could just walk away from it all because I know I'm making such a small difference (if even that). But I just can't. This is NOT how I planned to spend my retirement years. And I absolutely hate the people who are making such a mess of this country.  I hate them for what they are doing to me, my family, and all those who gave up so much, including their lives, to make this country great. Heaven help them if I ever do get a chance to change things. |

What a masochist. Whether you enjoy your retirement or not is up to you. There will always be plenty of stuff wrong with the country, even the world. It's somebody else' turn to change it. Get real before you drive yourself nuts.

Probably good advice Jerry. And I do enjoy things. Mostly I enjoy my animals and gardening. I'd enjoy flying, if I had enough money to do it. What with the price of fuel alone (up to $9.00 a gallon now) I simply can't afford it. And, of course, there is the Coast Guard Auxiliary where I work with so many fine people who make our efforts more of a pleasure than a duty.
But still I feel it is my responsibility to be involved in what is going on in our country. I don't think I can opt out of what little I can do until I'm 6 feet under. In fact, it may be more up to us old duffers. The young have livings to make and families to raise. Their time is so taken up that they don't have much extra time to devote to anything. On the other hand, we old folks do have time. We can go to the meetings, volunteer to work for the candidates, and like yourself, write and inform people about things.

Chris, if you enjoy it and feel it helps, by all means go for it. I just hate to see you or anybody get all intense over something that is so completely out of reach when there are closer, more immediate things to pursue for fun & glory.
As for flying, I recall someone saying that if God had intended Man to fly he would have given him more money. I haven't been up since about two years before the ultralight driving accident. A friend just got his Doctor Killer out of annual, and I may take a shakedown ride with him in a day or two, but otherwise I've been a penguin for too long.

Jerry, I actually enjoy the political war with Obama and the Progressives. It's almost like a hobby..but with more of a purpose. I also feel that I owe it to my kids and their kids and to my father who fought at Iwo Jima and other places to keep things like this from happening.
I know it seems like me and others are beating our heads against a block wall and nothing will ever change but I've already seen a great change. I think Obama has awakened a giant sleeping bear....LOL
