I don't like rhubarb pie either. I make faces when I eat it! ;D

I never see it anywhere either, Jerry. I made one a few years ago because my grandson wanted to taste it...it was great! And he loved it. I never see it in the stores anymore.

I love rhubarb when cooked with enough sugar. I used to make rhubarb cobbler.....easier than a pie. I also made a topping with rhubarb, strawberries, apricots, and white raisins (sugar of course) cook it until it has a lot of sauce in it. Then spoon over vanilla ice cream and top with mashed pecan crumbs. Of course if you really want to send your blood sugar sky high add some whipped cream before the pecan crumbs. It's SO sweet that you have to have some white wine to cut the sugar. Just the though sends my sugar count thru the roof. ;D

I think I'll just stick with good old Southern pecan pie.

Oh yummm Jerry. That's super good too. Why oh why wasn't I born skinny and needing to injest tons of calories? BTW, I've had two different types of pecan pie that are a little different than the plain variety. One was a chocolate pecan pie. Good but not great. And the other was a pecan cheese cake type of desert. I couldn't decide if it was a pie or cake. It had a cookie crumb crust. It was yummy too. All this talk about deserts. I need a sugar fix. ;D

Anyone like mincemeat pie? I really do and it always reminds me of the pies my mama made during the holidays. Last year when Sara, her daughter Anne and I were in France our hostess served little mincemeat pies for dessert one night. I was the only one who knew what they were! But the others ate theirs up and said they liked the taste. I guess it is one of those things that is no longer in fashion food wise.

You know Nancy, I haven't had a mincemeat pie in ages. Or even a bad one for that matter. You mentioning it brought back some good eating memories of when my whole family would get together for Thanksgiving. My Aunt Dee could make wonderful pies. And mincemeat was one of her best. I'm not sure how she got the crusts so flaky. I should have learned, but I wasn't interested in creating....only eating. Sometime children should be forced to learn things. They will appreciate it later in life. One thing I can make is Key Lime Pie. I cheat and use the pre made graham cracker crust. The rest is so easy (as long as you have a Key Lime tree that is) that even this baker can produce a good one. BTW, using regular limes make a good pie, it's just not quite the same as using real Key Limes.

Nancy, BTW do you have a good recipe for blackberry crumble? I had some once when I was visiting a friend in England. It was served with cream poured over it and was absolutely wonderful. I liked it because it wasn't too sweet. Unfortunately, Ann bought it in a bakery there so she didn't know the recipe. I've been trying to find a good way to make it but haven't duplicated the one I ate then. I'm interested again because a friend gave me some Kiowa blackberry bushes. If they live I'll have free blackberries....eventually.

I can't help you with that Chris. I loved blackberries but Bob doesn't like anything with seeds! So I have never even made anything with them.

Hey, what about me? BTW Jerry, it's not quite a cobbler. A crumble has a dough that is similar to a cobbler but, it's a bit more crusty. That's not a good way to describe it. But once you've had the two you can tell the difference, and the cream goes better with a crumble. Now if I can just get these bushes to grow, we'll have something to make out of blackberries next year.

Never mind the differences; just make it and I will come. :-)

Sounds good, Chris. I am surely not going blackberrry picking! Mama always said snakes lived around those bushes. Not sure where she came up with that one. But it sounds like a good excuse to me.

I can handle snakes; it's chiggers that I fear most around blackberries. (oops, my bigotry is showing; should have said Red American Bugs)
