Gloria, your opinion shows why I value your friendship. You are a kind and loving person. And I will agree to disagree on this subject. Personally, I believe in second and even third chances. But professionally, I don't. When I was flying professionally I had to do it right the first time and every time. If I hadn't I deserved to be fired. When I go out with the Coast Guard I have to do it right as do all Coasties. Too much depends on the job being accomplished. And that's how I feel about politicians. They don't get second chances in my book because, number 1- they asked for the job. number 2- they said they could do it. number 3-they have a huge staff to help them get it right. If they fail they should go home and someone who can do the job should replace them.
I guess I've been around the military too long for professional 2nd chances. I've seen many nice, honest, people relieved of their command simply because they couldn't do the job. Doesn't mean they aren't still nice and honest. It means they were in the wrong job. If a commander can't lead, and can't accomplish his mission then he needs to be relieved because people will die when he fails. If that is true in the military it is doubly true in government. These people play games with our lives. They need to be held to the highest standards and accountable for their actions. If we are to be a strong country it is very much survival of the fittest. Otherwise the strong will run over us.
