Well we so far have had three Southeastern Conference teams win bowl games and three lost. Auburn, Florida and Georgia won and Tennessee, Kentucky and LSU lost. We have three more teams playing today and the Alabama vs Texas game on the 7th. I think the remaining two teams in the conference didn't make it to a bowl game.
The Auburn game was a nail biter and I thought it had ended twice before it really did end. By the time it was over I had a headache.
I know Jerry thinks all this is senseless, but it really is good that the teams in Southeast have done so well. I am proud of all of them and I will even cheer Alabama on next week.

Gloria--I feel so ashamed--I am running a football pool at work (sh--don't tell anyone) and I picked against most of the SEC teams. I just thought that the conference was a bit overrated this year. I got caught up in the Cincinnati hype (boy, that was a bad pick) and picked against Georgia.
To paraphrase Scarlett Ohara "I'll never pick against the SEC again!!!, nor will I go hungry,"

Crazy games at times! I caught the Auburn game in the OT. Northwestern tried a failed trick play of not kicking a field goal which would have tied it again.
My son has Jer's DNA. I asked him how Florida got in there with Bobby Bowden having a 6-6 season? He said, "It is all about the money Dad. It was Bobby's last season and that made for a large viewing audience!"

Not entirely senseless, Glo. These games generate scores, and I love to bet on the last digits. Don't care who has the numbers, just that they match one of my squares on a football pot.

Two more teams from the Southeastern Conference won yesterday's bowl games and one lost.
So far the winners are Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi (Ole Miss) and Arkansas won and Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU and South Carolina lost. The last game is Thursday Jan. 7th between Alabama and Texas.

Like I said before, I'm not a football fan, but having gone to UA and living in T-Town, I am required by loyalty to say ROLL TIDE ROLL! It's funny because I have a lot of my high school alum on my facebook page and they are all about the Baltimore Ravens and the locals are always hollering Roll Tide (or the occasional War Eagle). The funny thing about my Maryland friends, the Colts left when I was young and the Ravens came after I was grown and moved, so it's like a foreign idea to me. Then in the south everyone is into college football. I love baseball myself!

Well we so far have had three Southeastern Conference teams win bowl games and three lost. Auburn, Gloria, I thought when I first read your post that you were about to say Auburn lost! I've been a little busy lately, but I know I saw the last few minutes of that game. But I've been a little distracted lately, so I thought I'd dreamed they won. All's well that ends well, though. I didn't dream it. Auburn won. Good for them. UAB, I haven't been completely distracted. (You know I'm serious when I call you by your whole name.) I cannot believe you picked Cincinnati. The SEC may be a little down, but they ain't comatose. That, son, was truly a gamble. What is it with these Catholics and gambling? It's not for you, U, so break away. Get help. Or go back to bingo. You'll have better odds.

Well, your son is probably right in a way, JB. The bowl sponsors want to generate a lot of interest by inviting teams with lots of fans who'll buy tickets and attend. It does help local economies. And the sponsors benefit from the good press. Bobby Bowden coaches at Florida State, and they haven't had a very good year. But lots of six-win teams go to bowls. I'm so glad he won his last game. If you saw the movie "We Are Marshall" about the college team and coaches who died in a plane crash, you'll remember Bowden, coach of their rival. He was the one who gave the next Marshall coaches free access to his films, notes and records and it was beneficial in getting Marshall's new team and staff started. He's really a good man. Speaking of Coach Bowden, he mentions my husband's dad in this article. sports.espn.go.com/ncf/feature/featureVideo?page=bowden/bama

He is a Woodlawn alumni and played football at Woodlawn. He was coaching at Samford when my best friend was attending there and then she went to Auburn and graduated from Auburn. He's a fine man and a fine coach.

I had the pleasure of sitting next to him on a flight from Birmingham to Jacksonville one time (he was sitting in coach and had a huge National Championship ring on his finger). I was too afraid to talk to him much but he was a perfect gentleman and was spreading out papers from his briefcase to study reports on some recruits and asked me if it would bother me. I still think Alabama made a terrific mistake in not hiring him and think he would have made another legendary coach for Alabama. I wish he could have gone out on a higher note but he has nothing to hang his head about.

Wow, Ken, I would have been speechless.
Our only claim to fame is my husband sat next to Ralph Nader on an airplane once. In the cheap seats. They talked a lot. He said Nader's fingernails were dirty.

Ouch--I have been in trouble many times in my lfe, but when my whole name is called, I know that I have crossed a line somewhere. I guess in my heart I wanted someone to prove that a Non-BCS team could compete. As for the gambling--have you been talking to my wife???
