While browsing the Sunday Bham News for something worth reading, it occurred to me how vastly different it is compared to, say, forty or fifty years ago. Had this newspaper been time-machined back into Happy Days, it would have been thought a work of sick fiction.
A big chunk was dedicated to further memorializing and preserving the hard racial feelings of the early 60's. Another story explained legislation regarding how homosex and other things are to be taught in Sex Ed class. By far, the biggest part of the paper was allotted to football. Want-ads, which used to make up a huge part of the paper, are now crowded into a couple of pages.
And what about all the murders, violence and wierd politics? Not to overlook the antics of a black muslim President.
Of course the paper itself is only about 70% as large in format, and much thinner than when people actually read instead of texting.
Perhaps it's time for newspapers to die a natural death.

Our local newspaper is half of what it once was. Of course during the housing boom here, a third of it was houses for sale.
