Gabrielle Giffords just spoke before congress AGAINST guns. Now after what she went through one can understand that. But despite the fact that what happened to her should never happen to anyone, she's wrong. The gun was the instrument a nutty, evil person used to try to kill her. He could have used a hammer to clobber her, a knife to stab her, or waded into the crowd with a running chain saw. HE was the problem and the evil, NOT his weapon of choice. Everyone who has a functioning brain knows that outlawing guns isn't going to keep the bad guys from getting them any more than the laws against illegal drugs keeps people from obtaining and using them.
I feel much sorrow that Rep. Giffords had to go through such a terrible ordeal. But violence has always been with us since the first caveman picked up a rock and clobbered his fellow caveman. We are NOT going to stop it by outlawing weapons. In fact, I don't think we are ever going to stop violence. All we can do is prepare ourselves to defend against it.
