I ran across a song that I really enjoyed in my youth "Ahab the Arab" and got to thinking about how when I was young, music was fun. A lot of comedy based songs were quite the rage. And generally music was up rather than down and sorrowful. Like "All American Boy" and that type of music. I miss it. Of course google will bring them to life now for the most part.

every now and then I'll check out a song I haven't heard in years on Youtube. When I do that, they have suggested songs on the right hand side of the page....I have spent hours and hours listening and watching old bands and songs I had totally forgotten about....it's a lot of fun.

Yeah Tommy, Old people always have a story... When I was young, and really I was once. I spent most of my free time on the beach at South Hampton and had a beach buggy. The buggy was named Clyde and had Ahab and Fatima on the respective sides. Those were fleeting fun times. Nothing like 70 mph on the beach at the water line. And we got to oogle at the richies that lived there in the huge stone castle like homes. At 19 I was a member of the Long Island Beach Buggy Association. Wonder what ever happened to all that tridition with political correctness coming in.

When I was a teen, Elvis was touring the country in his gold Cadillacs and got drafted. Bobby Bare did a parody of the life of Elvis called "The All American Boy." A couple of years ago I downloaded it and played it for my kids who really got a kick out of it. These generations have never heard any of all that old stuff.
The Union 76 truck stop in Elpaso had a Juke box with just about all comedy records by Ray Stephens and others many that I have never heard before or since. Many were trucking related. Of course they closed in the '70s.

You folks might find what you want on Pandora Radio. Just go to pandora.com and follow directions. You can input a genre or artist or type of song or song title and it will search for similars. You refine this search by clicking a thumb up or down for every song. After a while you no longer need to click, as it has learned exactly what you want to hear. You can even create several "stations" with a different kind of music for each. Great background; I listen all the time while working on my computer, which is several hours a day.

You know you're an old fut when you watch a movie set in the 1930's and you recognize the music and know the words to the songs. ;D I too love the old songs. They had beautiful melodies and wonderful lyrics. And the crooners could really sing. One of my favorites is Ed Ames. And, of course, old blue eyes Frank Sinatra. I loved Doris Day and Kaye Starr also. The list could go on and on. Oh BTW Jerry, do they still charge for Pandora. I used to use it until they kept increasing the price.

Pandora is free unless you get the paid, ad-free version.
