It happened very fast. In fact many reporters were caught off guard. The smoke looked black for just a few moments, and then turned white. People started flooding into St. Peter's Square to meet the new Pontiff. Turns out he is a humble man who has not availed himself of the trappings of his office as a "Prince of the Church". As reported, he lived in an apartment with a fellow Jesuit who is disabled. He took the bus to his work every day. No driven limo for him. He cooked his own food, and lived the life of a very humble man who considered himself a servant of the people, not a Cardinal who should be served. Many think this is just the man the Catholic Church needs to clean up a lot of things. From banking scandals to priests who molest children; the Church needs quite a bit of cleaning. There is an old saying about the Jesuits being the Marines of Catholicism. They joke that first comes God, then the lowest of the Jesuits, and then the Pope. Now Rome has a Pope who is a Jesuit. Time will tell, but I predict a lot of feathers will be flying in the ranks of those who want things as usual. ;D Good luck, Pope Francis. A lot of people around the world are depending on you.

One of the local talking news heads on TV last night remarked that he was the first Jesuit pope, but she pronounced it jess-soot. Why don't people look these things up anymore? About three clicks on a mouse would have given her the right pronunciation. A while back, one of the same general ethos said that a certain creek was a try-BEW-tery of the Cahaba River.

Jer, the world we live in. Only going to get worse with all the shortcuts in texting, etc.
