Military dog handlers and their dogs become so close that it's hard when the handler leaves his buddy. The dogs certainly don't understand. And while they may form another bond with a human I'm sure they must wonder in their doggy way, what happened to my human. Why doesn't he come back?
The city of Des Moine made one dog and one marine very happy when they gave up the former explosive detection dog that they had obtained from the military. Now a fire department dog, the Lab and
Marine were joyfully reunited in a big surprise ceremony. Both had mustered out of the military but the former Marine had made a promise to find his buddy if he possibly could. He did, and when he thought he was going to Des Moine to beg a committee to allow him to purchase his dog, he was flabbergasted when he was told that a civic group had raised the money to allow the fire department to purchase another dog, and that he could take his buddy home forever.
