I just love to "hate" Harry Reid. He's such a slime ball. J.B. why in the world does Nevada keep sending him back to the Senate? His latest scheme is to keep amendments from being added to a misnamed "Farm" bill by forcing a vote to cut off debate on the bill. This bill, which would spend 80% of the proposed 955 BILLION dollars on food stamps is hardly about farming. It belongs in the free stuff category. But it's a good way to hide more spending for the great unwashed, unemployed, low information voters. Way to go Harry.
Oh, and while we are on the subject, why do we even have a department of agriculture at the federal level? Shouldn't the individual states be handing their own agriculture? The federal government has an amazing ability to confuse and complicate any subject; all while spending more money than is needed to solve any problem. Want to save money? Close the whole department and let the states solve whatever problems exist in their area. But, of course, that won't happen because once established, NO GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACY is ever closed!

Chris, I couldn't agree with you more. Why he gets reelected? Lots of Californian transplants here and we are a HUGE union town as well as Reno.

j.b., I think a lot about why the Republican party loses so many elections that they should have won. Of course there are the stupid, I don't give a care voters who vote on 30 second sound bites or the way their union tells them to vote. And that brings me to thinking about the unions. The Republicans are traditionally thought of (by union membership) as the "enemy" of little people (the kind that belong to a union) and the friend of big business and the rich. I've often said that the Republicans take this; we're above the fray attitude when it comes to campaigns. They think of themselves as the upper class, don't get down in the dirt with the lower class Democrats. And that sort of attitude has lost them votes. Instead of earning the enmity of the unions, the Republican party should be concentrating on helping union members. Now, by that, I don't mean promise the masses all the goodies. No, what I'm talking about is encouraging people within the unions. Let them know that the Republicans understand that the reason people join a union is to be protected. And that the Republicans are all for protecting the "little" people from the corruption of crony capitalism and the over reaching power of BIG government. They have got to get involved at the local level. Just because an individual doesn't have much power by himself, and joins a union, doesn't mean he's stupid. And those are the people that the Republicans should be going after. But instead, they ignore them. And the little people support union leadership that steals their money, keeps them under their thumb, and promises them the moon. If the Republican party ever wants to turn things around, they have got a lot of house cleaning to do, and a lot of election strategies to change. If they can ever do that, then people like Reid can be kicked out.
