As usual Obama gave a good delivery to his speech. But what did you think of the content? For me it was more of a candidate speech than a president's speech about the state of the nation. There were an awful lot of "I"'s in it. I didn't, and I chose, and I will, and I want etc. He also started off with a litany of what he inherited from Bush...none of it good. I thought it was a lot of eyewash and not a lot of substance.

He is a very skilled speaker with good writers.I watched some and tivoed the rest. He talks a good talk, but we need to see some good decisions made by this president. I wish both parties did not play politics and would do what is best for the citizens of the USA.

all sound and fury, without much substance. I'll freeze spending............next year. I'll start up nuclear power plants and open up drilling....................along with cap and trade. We'll cut into the deficit..................with savings we aren't even doing now.
The man is slick, I'll give you that, but I wouldn't let him hold my wallet.

The Democrats had to change their underwear after the speech and the Republicans chuckled and said.......REALLY? ;D

I particularly didn't like the way he spoke to the Supreme Court Justices. I thought it was insulting. He only got part of what they decided about campaign donations right. The law concerning foreign donations being banned is still in place, and still considered constitutional. I don't like the fact that the Supreme Court decided that under our constitution we can't limit what an individual can donate to a campaign. But I'm not a Constitutional lawyer......Obama is supposed to be, so should have investigated the WHOLE decision before he opened his mouth and scared a lot of people into believing that foreign governments will be pumping money into our political system.

I had been reserving any comment on the State of the Union speech because I refused to watch it. However, I have seen clips and reports and last night watched Glenn Beck and his response. I used to say, like so many others, that Obama was a good speaker...as long as he had a teleprompter. That compliment is no longer valid with me or many other Americans. Like so many others, I find the sound of his voice has become nauseating. I've never heard a president with so much arrogance. He lectured us on how he obviously didn't explain health care to us enough...most likely because we're too stupid to understand it. He even lectured the Supreme Court justices about their recent decision and how they evidently didn't understand constitutional law as well he does. He even lectured the Congress about not getting anything done. And of course everything is still Bush's fault. As for me, I'm glad he continued this tone. I was afraid he would pull a "Clinton" and act a little humble and start agreeing to listen to the people. Maybe even admit he was wrong. I was afraid that some of those who voted for him would get another gulp of kool-aid and go totally deaf, dumb and blind again and help push his "Progressive Agenda". Thankfully he remains the egotistical narcissist that he's always been. I don't see him lasting much longer in the White House...next stop...the penitentiary...or the asylum. Tommy

I also have been listening to bits and pieces of the speech that he gave when he visited the Republicans. His one comment about people being against the health care bill I thought was completely arrogant. He said people were so against it that you'd have thought it was a (wish I could remember the exact word but it means the same as communist ) plot. And I was thinking to myself.....well wasn't it? You wanted to control how people would take care of their health, which is pretty much central to everything else they do. You've taken control over private industry, and fired a CEO, set salaries, and want to take even more control over the banks. You've spent us into such debt that I'll never see us get out in my lifetime. How much more communistic/socialistic can a government (or Obama) get? Does the man really think we are that stupid? Forget that question. I'm sure he not only thinks that the people are that stupid but the members of Congress as well.

I couldn't believe he actually had the nerve to say a lot of what he did...like how he has cut down on all the lobbyists...Glenn Beck listed about 20 lobbyists in his staff. The lobbyist from SEIU is at the White House at least once a week.. He even made the stupid statement that he was going to double our exports creating hundreds of thousands of jobs....just WHAT EXPORTS are we going to export that the world needs twice as much of? Are we going to export solar panels? How are we going to compete with the Chinese on solar panels? After the unions, business taxes, red tape, and regulations we can't possibly compete with China. Also, Mr. Barry proved to everybody that he has no clue about constitutional law by confusing quotes from the constitution and the bill of rights...things that a beginner in constitutional law understands thoroughly. He made several misquotes of the constitution causing many to wonder how he ever got a law degree. And he was supposed to be a professer in constitutional law...what happened? Maybe Mr. Manning was right....his law degree was bought by Al Khalidi and when he was supposed to be at law school he was in fact in the mid east....Pakistan. No wonder nobody at Columbia remembers ever seeing him. The man is in his own dream world full of fantasies...he's totally lost it. Tommy

The man totally scares me. He's so bent on turning this country into a socialistic state and there are many who don't either care or realize it. We simply must pay attention to what the folks in D.C. and our state capitols do or we will live in a country that we don't recognize....or like. There was a time when I was young, when most politicians really liked this country. They were proud of it. Even if they looked after #1 first, they weren't hell bent on destroying the land where they lived. Now? Well, do you really think people such as Nancy or Harry like this country? BTW I couldn't watch the State of the Union speech. I had to read it later because I just couldn't stand watching Nancy P. jumping up and down to cheer the President's message. She reminded me of an ancient cheer leader. The woman is even more annoying to watch than Obama.

thanks to Glenn Beck and others we are just now getting an education into just what's been going on in our government for a long time. Be very aware of the term "Progressive" movement or "the Progressives". I didn't realize I had heard this term coming from Obama, Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and many more until Glenn Beck showed us videos of their speeches. To quote Obama: "to my Progressive friends" or "Massachusetts is where the Progressive movement began". Or even quoting Hillary: " I consider myself a modern Progressive". The Progressive movement started a long time ago with Woodrow Wilson...the most evil president ever according to Glenn Beck. I had done a book report on Wilson in High School and never heard of such. (neither did Glenn Beck) The Progressive movement started income taxes, the Federal Reserve, social security etc. It's basic premise is to "spread the wealth" by taking from the rich and giving to the poor. It's the pathway to socialism and then on to Marxism where the government controls EVERYTHING. So if you hear the term "Progressive" a red flag should go up immediately. Tommy

I also meant to say that the Progressives aren't absolutely affiliated with one particular party. There are Democrats, Republicans, Progressives and now Tea Partiers. There are Progressives in both parties. However, this administration is overrun by Progressives. Tommy

One of the annoying things I found in the State of the Union address was how the audience was applauding every other minute. Literally, it was like there was that one person in the audience applauding and everyone joins in. Obama could not even finish a sentence yet and everyone joins in and applaud. It took the seriousness out of the speech. There was no evaluation of what Obama proposed, it was felt like a dog begging and barking for a treat, just eating out of his hands.
I propose this.... I will do that... but no thought into how, when, how long, and any thought into the problems that come with. "Easier said than done" but it feels like as long as its Obama saying it, everyone is happy and everything will be OK.

welcome Andy, This thread was from 2010 I think but that's ok...this years state of the "onion" wasn't much different.
from what I understand 3 of the supreme court judges didn't even show up...that's a good sign. I tried to ignore the speech while it was on my office TV (man cave) However, I did hear....increasing minimum wage to $9....it's supposed to help the poor...well it will help eliminate their jobs. I also heard he wants to make it easier for voter fraud. And then there was "gun control". I also heard that housing sales rose 50% over last year....oh yeah? So they went from selling 4 houses last year to 6 this year? And who bought these houses? Arabs? Plus he made mention that he wants to control the INternet. (for national security)
