While cool water does relieve the pain of minor burns, the best ointment I've ever used is a thing called Silvadene Cream 1%. It not only takes away the pain it prevents infections in patients who have received 2nd and 3rd degree burns. You have to get an Rx for it, and unfortunately it's shelf life isn't that long. My story, I stuck a rag in my back pocket that I'd been using to wipe up MEK in the hangar. About two minues later my tush began to hurt big time. I went to the bathroom and washed off thinking that would take care of it. But it REALLY hurt. So I went to the clinic up the street where they slathered on Silvadene Cream. A little embarrassing to have people looking at your bare tush. But it hurt so bad I didn't care. First, and I hope, the only time I'll ever have to be treated for a chemical burn. Took about 2 weeks to heal. But thanks to the cream, I didn't get an infection.

Years ago (approx. 40 yrs) I was riding a small motorcycle called a Mini trail 50 Honda. I slid down in the gravel in our driveway and the muffler of the bike laid on my leg. I had a burn that took weeks to heal and all that was used on it was this salve. In later years (1986) I had a chemical burn at a company I worked for and had mostly 2nd degree burns on my foot and ankle. All the Hospital would use is Silvadene. When you compare the scars, the ankle is very noticeable with the chemical burn. The knee and leg from the thermal burn of the muffler is almost unnoticeable. Mom or my Grandmother bought the Cumerindine at the Rexall drugs that use to be on the corner of Hwy.77 and Hwy. 411 in Rainbow city. They tore down the little store in the 80's. The FDA or somebody today would say it was an illegal medicine and wouldn't let it be sold. It would have to have a $1,000,000. drug trial and still wouldn't get approval. The only approval my Grandmother needed was the pharmacist telling her it would work. Go home and put it on the boy! Although this is not the same... Look at some of the Watkins products........... www.jrwatkins.com/

Wow thank you for the stories! Darryl, it's a shame that it had to stop being made. it was a miracle salve, from personal experience back in the 80's and from other testimonials. I'm surprised that you other Alabama folks don't remember it!
