It's getting so that a body can't view the news without something making his blood pressure rise. That is especially so if he watches FOX. Seems that Iran is going to be censured by the AEIE (I may have that wrong but you know the folks) The whole UN may call them bad names. But what good will that do? There is no teeth in that bite. Nope, Iran isn't going to pay attention until Israel smites them. And then you will hear the usual cry that Israel is an awful country etc. etc. Obama doesn't want them to have nukes but doesn't have the nerve to do anything. No he'll let Israel carry the ball and then call them out on it. Don't ya just love politics and the people who engage in them?

Chris, I have had to back off the news a bit. It really hurts to see and hear all the things that are going on in our country.

Gloria, I'd like to know where all of the leaders have gone too. With all of those characters in Congress isn't there one who will stand up and tell it like it is instead of using polite language to say nothing? Isn't there one who is so angry that (s)he will risk his standing in his party to yell out his/her outrage? Are they all Lemmings? Are they all going to follow their leader off the side of the cliff? 2010 is the time to throw the bums out! Who knows what we'll get in there but the message will have been sent and hopefully they will at least attempt to clean up D.C. I feel as if I'm living in a banana republic.

Well, Obama made his speech about sending in more troops. First he says he's sending in more troops, and then he gives a timetable for their withdrawal. Excuse me, is anyone else confused? If you're the enemy, and you know when the troops will be leaving, wouldn't you just sort of hold back on the big attacks until the U.S. thinks it's been successful, and then take over when the big bad Americans have left? In his effort to please both sides of the question, I believe that Obama has once again shot himself in the foot as far as leadership goes.

Just think about the message this sends to the people of Afganistan. They are in terror of the Taliban and getting their trust is paramount in this war...we need the help of the people there. Why would these people help us now knowing that we're going to pull out in 18 months? They would be signing their own death warrants. Tommy

Another thing that really ticked me off about this speech is the fact that he used the military at West Point as background for his performance. I hate it when any President uses the military for a background.....unless, of course, they are giving the commencement address at one of the military academies. I hated it when Clinton did it, hated it when Bush did it, and I SURE hate it when Obama does it because it's not a very big secret that he has little to NO respect for the men and women in the military. And those poor people have to stand there and support their commander in chief. YUCK!

That's the beauty of being President; if you can't earn respect, you can always mandate it.

Yep, I wonder how he felt when the picture of the one cadet asleep in his chair made the news. Fox said the cadets were there for 4 hours before the speech. I'm so glad I'm not a West Point Cadet because I could have gotten up and walked out. And believe me I would have. In fact I don't want to be anywhere near either of the Obamas. I don't want to have to shake hands with them, or share a room with them, or in any way be forced to show any respect for them.....because I have none.

Fox news was reporting how the commander spoke to the cadets prior to Obama showing up and asked them to show enthusiasm when Obama speaks. I don't think the cadets could have looked more bored if they tried. The one cadet wasn't the only one asleep during the speech...I spotted a civilian sound asleed too. I closely watched the audience and it was quite telling...some clapped occasionally (one or two claps) and some never did. It was if....do I have to clap? It looked like a painful experience for most of them. Tommy

I noticed the young men and the old men of West Point all seemed to be unimpressed by the speech. It's interesting how the President is going against his most ardent supporters by sending troops anywhere. But he's trying to placate the far left by promising to have "draw down" begin on a specific date. And now both sides hate this idea. Because it's obviously stupid to tell the enemy when you plan to leave.
I heard some say the date mentioned means nothing anyway. It's a promise he doesn't intend to keep. It sure did take him long enough to decide to address this issue. It seems to me if the health care reform issue was looking promising to the adminsitration, they would have let this ride a little longer. He's trying to succeed at something by the end of the year.

I think you are right sara--he wants to have something to hang his hat on for the State of The Union address in January.
Interesting timing on all this stuff, too--on the health care side, the craziness won't start until 2013, at which point I assume he thinks he have been reelected. At the same time, the 18 month draw down date is just before election time--he has been running for office since the inauguration, and probably won't ever quit.
