You know Dubai, the island building nation. They are the ones who have a Prince who has built things to rival the Egyptians. His hotels are absolutely beautiful, stunning pieces of architecture. They needed more land so he had islands built. Yes actual islands in the shape of palm trees and even a map of the earth. You can buy the United States if you wish. There are ski resorts in huge buildings in the middle of the desert. His goal is a lofty one. Make Dubai a place for the rich to vacation and live. Only trouble is that they have run out of money and now seem not to be able to pay back outstanding loans. Why should we care you ask. Because guess whose banks loaned this Prince the money. Bet you didn't have to think very hard did you! It's not enough that our banks made lousy loans to our own people. They also made them to the Arabs. You know, the people who gouge every penny they can out of us for oil. Geeze, are we stupid or what?!

I can imagine the sheik's wife asking, "Okay what did dubai today?"
We will never recover any of that money because they will threaten to shut off our oil if we try. It's like loaning a lawyer your phone card.

they were explaining on Fox today that Dubai and California are pretty much in the same boat. Doing exactly the same things and ending with exactly the same results. Tommy

do you think its a coincidence that, if you spelled Dubai wrong--like Dubia, that it rhymes with Dubya, which stands for Bush?
Dang right wing conspiracies!!!!!!!!!!

I saw a show about those islands, I think on NatGeo....I had no idea we lent them the money. How stupid is that? Plus they had to keeep re-doing everything because they didnt have enough water flow between the islands and the water was going stagnate. They had all sorts of problems and the date they were supposed to be finished had to keep getting moved. Why would they need to borrow money from us? Again, how STUPID!

To be honest, I didn't know they borrowed money on these ventures. I just thought they were making money hand over fist from the oil sales. Then when I thought about it, even though they may have had the money, you use somebody elses so if it fails, it isn't your money. Now I know why I will never be rich!

It's amazing what they did with those man-made islands. If you get a chance to watch the documentary, do it. It may have been on the Travel Channel. One of those, Discovery, History, Nat. Geo, I like all of those stations.

Exactly, Gloria. If you helped yourself from the money bank while playing Monopoly the game would be over, and possibly a fight would start.

So why aren't we complaining at least? I'm not quite sure how to fight city hall but governments, all governments, get their authority from the people. Sometimes they hold a gun to your head but if all the people refuse to obey the government, then the government loses it's power. We have very legal ways to complain. And better yet, we have the vote. These crooks need to be voted OUT in 2010. And don't say we'll just get some more crooks. Then we vote them out. We bring lawsuits, just like the people who don't believe that Obama is a legal President. We keep it up until we've cleaned house. Or we sit here and let a bunch of selfish bastards run our lives. Which is it going to be?

Which is it going to be? Start by telling your elected officials that if they want their jobs back they need to find out what the voters want and vote that way. I believe that Obama will find that out when the next election rolls around.

They already know. That's how Yomama got elected in the first place, and will probably be re-elected.

Sorry, I have trouble with the cut and paste thing. But if you connect with the post above you'll see some of the most, beautiful and outlandish hotels in the world. You've got to admit that the banking industry (both ours and Europe's) have something to repossess. ;D
